This will basically just be a post of paragraphs with each one pertaining to something different.
I’ve been working on a web project that will focus on fixing widescreen support in games. It will be a site for developers and a place where we can share code, discuss games, and basically help each other out. This website project is still a couple months off, but once it is up, it will be a great source for fixing games.
I tried working on getting Call of Duty 4 to work with PunkBuster by removing the HUD-modifying code, but it still had disagreements. There are a couple of other things I can try, but I can make no guarantees that any of it will work.
I recently upgraded from XP to Vista. With the release of SP1, Vista is actually extremely nice to use now. 99% of the problems I had before are gone. The only thing that really bothers me about Vista still is that it doesn’t handle running games in a window very well, and that it still uses unnecessary amounts of memory. I installed XP inside VMware which I will be using as my primary development system. I did not want to fill up my Vista install with all kinds of development software, tools, and overall junk. This setup is actually rather nice and efficient.
I may start work on a new analog stick sensitivity modifier for the PSP. JoySens isn’t really getting updated for the newer custom firmware and it is one of the most useful plugins out there. If I do start work on this project, I will keep it open-source so that if I ever stop working on it, people are more than welcome to make it work on their own.
I’ve been getting a bit into doing game videos, as well. Using AviSynth, x264, and a combination of Fraps and/or in-game video recorders, I’ve been able to make some incredible clips. I’ve not made an entire video yet out of any of the clips, but I will eventually get something together. I’m more of a technical person, so directing videos and deciding what scene goes where and when is really not my expertise. However, I’ll make something nice eventually.
I’ve been playing a lot with ZFS under Mac OS X. ZFS is probably the most awesome filesystem I’ve ever got my hands on. There is no way to boot from ZFS in Mac OS X yet, but I may toy around with setting up a specific HFS+ partition with just the boot stuff in it, and then from there, mounting the filesystem with ZFS and having ZFS as my primary install drive. This trick is also used with Vista to use partitions with cluster sizes larger than 4K as your main drive. I know nothing about the actual boot process of Mac OS X yet so this may not even be possible altogether, but I’m definitely going to look into it.
